Play SHAWRY Raising Funds for Groundbreaking Depression Treatment and Research

Award-winning playwright and CORE-BD Brains Trust member Neil Cole is bringing his acclaimed play SHAWRY back to the stage this March. Proceeds will support the Advanced Interventions in Mood Disorders (AIM) Clinic at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. CORE-BD Investigator Professor Chris Davey is the Director of the AIM Clinic, which offers novel interventions for treatment-resistant depression.

The play, which previously enjoyed a sold-out season, tells the story of Collingwood legend Tony “Shawry” Shaw and the club’s historic 1990 AFL Grand Final victory after a 32-year premiership drought.

Acclaimed playwright David Williamson praised the production, saying it “returns to lighten the heart of all football supporters and particularly Collingwood fans” and described it as “a comedy, a tradgedy, a drama, and a trip down memory lane. An historic play that will make you laugh and cry”.

By combining story telling, sport, and community spirit, SHAWRY aims not only to entertain audiences but also to support critical mental health research to help people living with difficult-to-treat depression.

SHAWRY runs 11-21 March at Motley Bauhaus, 118 Elgin Street, Carlton.
